The Manaslu region, particularly the Manaslu Circuit Trek, offers a plethora of breathtaking viewpoints. The undisputed champion for panoramic vistas is the Larkya La Pass.
Larkya La Pass: The Ultimate Vista
At an elevation of approximately 5,106 to 5,160 meters (16,752 to 16,930 feet), Larkya La Pass is the highest point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek and provides the most expansive and dramatic views. From this lofty vantage point, trekkers are rewarded with sweeping 360-degree panoramas of some of the most magnificent peaks in the Himalayas.
Key mountains visible from Larkya La Pass include:
- Mount Manaslu (8,163m): The eighth-highest mountain in the world, often seen up close and in its full glory.
- Himalchuli (7,893m)
- Ngadi Chuli (7,871m)
- Cheo Himal (6,820m)
- Himlung Himal (7,125m)
- Kang Guru (6,981m)
- Annapurna II (7,939m)
- Larkya Peak (6,250m)
The journey to Larkya La Pass is challenging, often involving steep ascents and descents through snowy or icy patches, especially during certain seasons. However, the sheer grandeur of the scenery from the top makes every demanding step worthwhile. Early mornings are often best for clear views, as the first rays of sun create a magical golden glow on the snow-capped peaks.

Other Notable Viewpoints in the Manaslu Region
While Larkya La Pass takes the top spot, several other locations offer incredible photographic opportunities and stunning mountain vistas:
- Samagaun and Lho Villages: These picturesque villages, influenced by Tibetan culture, provide excellent close-up views of Mount Manaslu. From Lho, specifically, you can get clear views of Manaslu, Himal Chuli, and Ganesh Himal. Shyala village, a short walk from Lho, also offers fantastic 360-degree mountain views, making it a perfect spot for photography and an overnight stay before heading to Samagaun.
- Birendra Lake (Tal): Located near Samagaun at an elevation of around 3,450 to 3,691 meters, this pristine glacial lake offers serene reflections of the surrounding peaks, including Mount Manaslu. It’s a popular side trip for acclimatization.
- Manaslu Base Camp: For a truly up-close encounter with Mount Manaslu and its surrounding glaciers, a trek to the Manaslu Base Camp (around 4,800-5,100 meters) from Samagaun is an exhilarating option. This challenging hike offers magnificent views of the mountain itself, along with Ngadi Chuli and Shringi Himal.
- Pungyen Gompa: This remote and enchanting monastery, nestled amidst glaciers and towering peaks, offers some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the Manaslu region. It’s a worthy detour, especially for sunrise or sunset views, though it can be a tough climb from Shyala Village.
- Samdo Ri (5,177m): A lesser-known viewpoint above Samdo Village, offering superb all-around panoramic views of the Himalayas and even glimpses of the Tibetan plateau and border. The climb is steep but highly rewarding.
- Rui La Pass (Lajyang Bhanjyang – 4,998m): Another high-altitude pass near the Tibet border, accessible from Samdo, providing stunning views of the Tibetan plateau and several staggering peaks. Historically, it served as a trade route.
